All of us here at the PLA would like to thank everyone who supported us throughout the first season, sometimes it was a rocky road, but the PLA always seemed to prevail, one way or another.
We would all like to congratulate our Point Series winners: Kai Sallas and Bob Edwards.
Kai Sallas (HAW) took home the first ever PLA Pro Mens Championship, beating out Colin McPhillips, Troy Mothershead, and Steve Newton, while Bob Edwards was able to beat out other individuals for the first ever Open Amateur Championship. It was a true pleasure witnessing all the great surf this year, and look forward to an even bigger and better 2009.
The make everything a little better, and more competitive we will become the Official Qualifying Series for the ASP longboarding division in 2009, so please be on the look out for our schedule as we will annoce our dates on Dec 1st.
Again Thank you to everyone, we will see you all next year

PLA's Amateur Charity Challenge
Hey everyone
I would like to let everyone know that the PLA will be holding its first ever Amateur Charity Challenge at the PLA Championships on November 14-16 in Huntington Beach.
The PLA will be working with local Southern California Surf Clubs to help raise money for charitable causes and build interest in the community. How does it work you ask? Simple...
Surf Club members sign up on the PLA website (Event Registration fee is $50- no PLA membership required). Once all Surf Club members are signed up, ther PLA will cross reference the surfer with his or her registered club. Club members will be judged during the contest on an individual basis just like any other contest. The PLA will take the TOP 2 scores from that clubs top individual heats thoughout the contest. At the end of the contest a Indiividual winner and Team winner will be announced. The Surf Club that wins overall will have a portion of the total registration fee donated to their charity.
All age categories and divisions will be represented at the event, so there will be somehting for everyone.

We will survive, we will make it!...Thats what we have been saying to ourselves to all year. Well the season is almost over, and we are still standing strong.. well standing anyway. yeah we have taken a few small hits here and there, come across a speed bump or two, and even had to cancel an event, but with our Championship event on the horizon, and our season coming to a close, we can confidently say we feel that this season has been success.
The PLA plans to continue it's success into our November event, which by now all of you might know, follows the Oxbow World Tour. The PLA will finish the season strong with the Additions of Professional Tandem Surfing, Stand-up Paddle, and the first ever "Club Charity Challenge".
For more info on these additions, especially the "Club Charity Challenge" please visit the PLA website for all the info.
Thank you everyone for your continued support.

PLA sends out a thank you

Welcome to the official PLA blog.... it has been a crazy couple of years. Im not going to lie, trying to brush the cob webs off an association that was dead for 10 years has been a little tough. But.. with 3 events under our belt and 2 left to go in the 2008 season, I can say it has been pretty satisfying to see all of the hard work paying off.
I know there have been small bumps in the road, and kinks that NEED to be worked out, but I would like to thank all the surfers that have continued to stick by us, help us out, and direct us down the path to creating a Professional Association you can call your own. We wouldn't be here without your support.
Also to the sponsors that have come in to help us out. They believed in us, and we wouldn't have been able to start the season and continue to operate without them. So a big thank you to:
Costa Del Mar Sunglasses: http://www.costadelmar.com/
LNL Vacations: http://www.lnlvacations.com/
I know this blog should have been started at the beginning of the season, but you know what they say.. better late than never.
We would love to hear from you.. this blog has been started for you to voice your opinions and concerns. Check back for more as we hope to post a new blog at least once a week.
Thank you all again. We will see you in Huntington Beach on September 27th-28th
